Michelle Graveline
Music Director
Michelle
Graveline is active as a collegiate and community
chorus conductor, teacher, adjudicator and clinician.
She is Professor of Music at Assumption College
in Worcester and is currently President of the
Massachusetts Chapter of the American Choral Directors
Association.
She has guest-conducted massed
choirs at ACDA collegiate festivals, the 2009
MMEA Central District Junior Honor Choir, community
chorus festivals, the American Guild of Organists
Region I Convention, Worcester Consortium Colleges
concerts, and the Central Mass. High School Choral
Festival. She has served as an adjudicator for
numerous festivals and auditions, including the
2006 MMEA Western District Vocal Auditions, the
2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 Massachusetts All-State
Vocal Auditions, and the 2007 Massachusetts Instrumental
and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) Festival.
She has given workshops for the ACDA, the Massachusetts
Music Educators, and the Rhode Island Music Educators.
Graveline received the B. Mus.
and M.S.M. degrees from Boston University and
the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University
of Michigan. She studied with such distinguished
conductors as Robert Page and Harold Farberman,
and has been a conducting fellow at several prestigious
conducting institutes affiliated with Chorus America,
where she worked with Vance George, Margaret Hillis,
Gregg Smith and Dale Warland. She has been a Fellow
at the Conductors Institute at Bard College.
Graveline is in her 13th season
with the Salisbury Singers. Under her direction,
the chorus has more than doubled in size and performed
to critical acclaim. Works presented with orchestra
in the last few years include Brahms Requiem,
Haydn Creation, Mozart Requiem,
Handel Coronation Anthems, Mendelssohn
Elijah, Bach Mass In B Minor,
Verdi Requiem, Bernstein Chichester
Psalms, and Orff Carmina Burana.
She was also Music Director of the
Polymnia Choral Society of Melrose from 2002-2007.
She has prepared choruses for performances with
the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra, the Thayer
Symphony Orchestra, the Melrose Symphony Orchestra,
and guest-conducted at a number of Holiday Pops
Concerts with the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra.
With the Assumption College Chorale,
a select, auditioned concert choir, and the Assumption
College Community Chorus, a faculty/staff/alumni
chorus, Graveline has performed numerous works
for chorus and orchestra. She has led the Assumption
College Chorale on 11 national and international
concert tours, performing in Ireland, France,
Germany, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Czechoslovakia,
Poland, Russia, and Greece. The Chorale has sung
at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and St. Peter’s
Basilica in Rome, and has twice had the distinction
of performing for Pope John Paul II.
A noted harpsichordist and organist,
Graveline gave a series of concerts during the
2009-2010 with violinist Peter Sulski, performing
the complete sonatas for violin and harpsichord
of J. S. Bach as part of a sabbatical project.
